Somewhere you should go… Sassafras New Orleans pop-up

Need a break from the lashing winds and cold rain? Wish you could lose yourself in another culture, one full of rich foods, strong drinks, and people just interested in having a good time? Head north to Dalston Pond, and you’ll find a bit of the southern US in north London. Running for three days in February, Sassafras bills itself as a Taste of New Orleans in Dalston. The pop-up space will be home to photography exhibition showcasing Louisiana and New Orleans since the 1970s. After that, a series of supper clubs will be running featuring Creole and Cajun flavours to make you forget you’re in N16. Sassafras 1609 copy Starters include an oyster salad and a chicken and crawfish terrine, with mains like braised pork belly with dirty rice and the quintessential New Orleans dish, Creole jambalaya. Desserts like bourbon bread pudding and a chocolate shortbread mint ice cream sandwich will make sure you save room to the end. Diners will also receive a complimentary welcome drink, made with Four Roses Bourbon. Later in the evening, Errol Linton will supply New Orleans jazz and blues. NEW ORLEANS If you’re feeling like starting your day the Cajun way, Sassafras will also host brunch seatings that feature a New Orleans take on breakfast, including Eggs Louis Armstrong (poached eggs with shredded pork) and the Boudreaux (fried eggs with Cajun sausage and Creole hollandaise). Pair it all with strong coffee and a Cajun bloody mary, and you’ll be ready to face another winter’s day with a smile on your face!
