We love a good cocktail (or two) so we’re glad to recently discover a new bar after our own hearts; Kamique is where you go if you’re looking for spot in the West End that’s not only fun for hanging out, but prides itself on the quality and creativity of their drinks. It’s not everywhere that you can find at least 10 varieties of Mojitos, glamorous mixes and a fruity house drink called the “Kamiquitini” that makes us wish it was summer again!

kamique_2

Kamique also offers a decent selection of  food, especially if you’re looking to visit before a night at the theatre – and we personally recommend the lip-smacking, towering Smoked Special with its super-crisp onion rings, smoked cheddar, bacon and BBQ sauce.

So for your chance to enjoy this and more at Kamique this autumn, simply fill in your details below – the competition closes on November 15th and a winner will be chosen at random. Good luck!

We’re so fortunate to live in one of the most innovative cities in the world – but in case you needed to be reminded of that fact, talents from music, design, art, photography and food will be brought together for one night on September 12th to celebrate the London’s blistering creativity. In homage to the way Cutty Sark whisky was smuggled into the US 90 years ago, performances will take place inside a giant reproduction of a wooden cargo crate (ah-mazing?) with the soulful Jessie Ware headlining the unique proceedings.

Other guests on board include DJ and producer Duke Dumont, Burlesque star Miss Polly Rae and music photographer Tom Oxley, who’ll be presenting an exhibition of “video portraits” where he captured the likes of Liam Gallagher, Jake Bugg and Azealia Banks. Then there’s the food and booze, which will come courtesy of Meat Liquor’s Yianni Papoutsis, while 1920s inspired cocktails will be served at a secret speakeasy in the crate, run by 69 Colebrooke Row.
Finally, further artsy displays will come from The Shanty Theatre Company, It’s Nice That and design studio Flat-e, making all this sound like one heck of an amazing night out – so for your chance to win a pair a tickets, enter by doing one of the following:

Simply ‘like’ us on Facebook, and post this on our wall:  I really, really  wanna go to Cutty Cargo!

Or tweet: I really, really  wanna go to Cutty Cargo! to @culturalexpose

So we’ve teamed up with our partner site The Culture Club Photography Workshops to honour the Art of the Selfie this winter with a competition that will give you, our beloved urban adventurers, the skills to take your pictures to a whole new level.

Cast your minds back to April friends – you might remember TCé flagged up a comp where you picked a prized possession you’d trade for the chance to win a pretty awesome experience of a lifetime in New Zealand – a country that looks like it should be on the destination hitlist of any self-proclaimed urban adventurer. But whether you entered or not, you’ll be pleased to know you’ve got one last opportunity as Stories Beats Stuff enters into Phase 3, offering two new adventures which you can enjoy with three of your pals. There’s the glamorous City Splendour, which will take you around three of New Zealand’s largest cities and let you get up to everything from whale watching to club hopping, before later relaxing at a boutique hotel, VIP style:

Or you can choose Culture Kaboom, where you’ll take in New Zealand’s volcanic history by visiting boiling mud pools, steaming geysers and a hot water beach before learning more about Maouri culture by meeting locals and experience the indigenous lifestyle firsthand:

We’d be kidding ourselves if we didn’t think those two trips looked brilliant – and if you think so too, simply submit a video or a photo of what you would trade-off, select the three friends who’ll be joining you (pick wisely), and share your entry on all your social media networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google+) to get as many votes as possible.  You can even win flights for two to New Zealand for just voting.

Personally, we’ve got our eyes set on Culture Kaboom for being the epitome of YOLO (“you only live once”), so’ll be entering with this:

There’s nothing more we prize more than our vinyls – and these two – from the late Amy Winehouse – were the very first we received she debuted her album Frank nine years ago. Call us crazy for putting our Amy original promos on the line, but we’re down with the philosophy that stories beat stuff (even beloved stuff!), so it’d be great if you can vote for us just here) – and let us know when you enter as we’ll be more than happy to return the favour!

To enter, visit www.storiesbeatstuff.com

If you think that poetry belongs in the days of Wordsworth, then prepare for a re-education. The Roundhouse‘s  event returns to air the UK’s hottest contemporary talent in spoken word. There is a cash prize up for grabs, as well as the accolade of being crowned poetry slam champion – and stars of the art will be present to judge the young newcomers, including Inua Ellams, Kat Francois and the mighty grammar-man, Polarbear (pictured below)

Polarbear

Originating in the US back in the 80s, the poetry slam event draws on a variety of influences and styles. It may have all begun in a Jazz club in Chicago but performances range from Hip-Hip rap deliveries to dub poetry and unrhyming narrative formulas. The content of the performances can be anything from politicised verse to current events (could there be some olympic references in there too?). Last year Zia Ahmed took the prize and it’s not hard to see why. Since the performers will be aged between 16 and 25 the subject are likely to be more politicised than ever, just like the days of Alan Ginsberg and the beat poets. So it’s sure to be a great event at the Roundhouse – a place that always concerns itself with pushing the boundaries – and we just can’t resist that! (Words: Laura Thornley)

The Poetry Slam kicks off on August 15th. For more info, visit http://www.roundhouse.org.uk/whats-on/productions/roundhouse-poetry-slam-2012
