Somewhere you should go ….Free Film at the Scoop 2011

The African Queen © Romulus Films/Horizon Pictures (1951)

Oh, how we do love The Scoop! From their seasons of classic theatre to early morning fitness classes, this ampi-theatre near the loveliest views of the River Thames and Tower Bridge seems to constantly have plenty on offer for city workers, tourists and simply lovers of F.R.E.E. Case in point: September 14th marks the start of the More London Free Festival (see?!), which will offer three weeks of open-air film screenings of “classic, cult and contemporary films”, and give you and yours a reason to shun a dark, stuffy and pricey cinema to enjoy good movies, al fresco! This year’s programme is impressive too, and you can expect to see a few favourites on show including Dirty Dancing, Grease and The African Queen, while a few current features have been thrown in the mix, with Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, The King’s Speech, True Grit and The Social Network amongst the highlights. Better yet, you don’t need to book a spot; just turn up a little earlier than the 7:30pm start with your popcorn, snacks, blankets and film-loving friends in tow. But be warned; The Scoop can seat up to 800 people, so it might get a little cosy!

Until September 30th.
