In 2010,  I had this crazy idea to start having as many adventures as possible, with a mission to rediscover London and the world, and letting you guys know all about it.  So now, I’m pleased as punch that after two years, we’re still here – and I’m grateful to Twitter followers, the Facebook likers, the Something For The Weekend newsletter readers,  the various contributors, the interns, friends, family, the PRs, the sites and bloggers that supported me from day dot (SoulCulture, Pinboard Blog, I Am the Nu Black, The Musings of Ondo Lady), the folks that came out to The Culture Club meet-ups, the folks that are now loving The Culture Club Photography Workshops

Y’all have been wonderful, so thank you :-)  Over to you Stevie!

We’ve seen our fair share of pop-up cinemas in 2011, but the guys behind Secret Cinema are going one better with the launch of The Other Cinema – a global network of film screenings in alternative venues like town halls, prisons, hospitals, oil rigs (!) and  parks.  The aim is to bring back that warm and gushy feeling of heading to the local cinema with loved ones – and what better day to kick off than on Valentine’s evening with the legendary romance Brief Encounter?  The launch event takes place in The Troxy in East London (the former Picture Palace), and audience members will be encouraged to go black-tie and bring a flower for a lover or a stranger (awwwwwww).

Brief Encounter will screen from 14th – 18th February, but for more info visit www.theothercinema.org

We didn’t have to think too long and hard about this one.  For all this year’s hip and cultural happenings, this PA from A Tribe Called Quest’s legendary member Q-Tip (in my ‘hood of all places) has to go down as one of the most exciting  – and random –  gigs of 2011. Much love to Amelia from Put Me On It who spread the word on Facebook a day before the show, along with YoYo hosts Seb Chew and Leo Greenslade for pulling this trick out the bag.  You can re-live the brilliant night in photos, just here….

So with all our highlights now done and dusted, we’d like to say a very happy New Year to you and yours for this weekend – see ya in 2012!
