Sonic Celluloid presents… a Daft Punk double bill at The Roxy Bar and Screen, June 7th –  Electronic music duo Daft Punk make their film debut with the energetic double billing of Electrorama (a robot road trip set in the Californian desert) and Interstella 5555 (an intergalactic anime soundtracked to Daft Punk’s album Discovery). Get set for a night unlike any other… with great music.

Sadler’s Sampled, June 22nd – July 7th – “Free your mind and dance will follow” is the tagline of Sadler’s Sampled, a two-week dance festival with everything from hip-hop and contemporary dance to ballet and tango – and that’s just on one day!

British Animation Film Festival at Rich Mix,  June 23rd – Setting out to celebrate everything animated, this one-day festival dedicated to sharing the best of British and international animated films will contain every kind of animation, from hand-drawn shorts to 3D animation, and subject matter that varies from funny, to melancholy to just plain bizarre!

The Camden Pirate Castle is a wonderful community centre, based funnily enough by the lock in Camden, providing a place for young children to learn and play with boats and canoes, as well as offering an indoor space for various activities including yoga and tai-chi and all around doing valuable work for the local community. So join them for their fourth Walk Like A Pirate Day, a 12 mile walk on 22 June alongside London’s waterways to raise money for the centre.

Fancy dress is optional and with no charge to participate and no minimum sponsorship required, so it is a relaxed way to raise money for a great cause and take in the London river scenery.
The walk kicks off at 12pm outside Tottenham Hale tube station with a group photo and will end back at the Pirate House for celebratory drinks for all who survived.

If you prefer to see a more design-orientated exhibtion then don’t miss Wendy Ramshaw’s Room of Dreams. She is one of Britain’s leading contemporary designers, working in jewellery and large public art pieces; her inspired metal work can be found protecting the entrance of Hyde Park in the form of gates. The exhibitions includes maquettes of that piece as well as the central piece Room of Dreams: an out of this world “environment” which draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. And if that’s not enough,  running alongside the exhibition will be an exciting week-long event where all the biggest names in body adornment will be showcasing their latest jewellery pieces. Until June 24th.

And if you still have time, there ‘s an exhibition of five handcrafted Omega Workshop rugs from 1913-1916 in the Great Arch Gallery, also on until June 24th. Visitors can enjoy reproductions of the originals from an outstanding period of UK design so regularly forgotten. (Words: Laura Thornley)
