Get ready to celebrate all things dance this spring as a medley of award-winning contemporary dance troupes are being brought together for Spring Loaded 2012. The annual dance festival showcases innovative international talent and this year’s line-up is certainly worthy of some festivity.

The season kicked off last week with ‘Badlands’, a story of a twisted romance by leading choreographer Robert Clark and a showcase by dance artist Darren Ellis called ‘Long Walk Home’ – a touching series of individual portraits depicting four women and their lives.  This was followed on Friday by  James Wilton, winner of the Sadler’s Wells Global Context 2010, who  presented his third dynamic choreographic work Cave and  ‘A Gesture That is Nothing But A Treat’ by Sofia Dias and Vitor Roriz, which  enraptured the crowd with words, voices and sounds complimented by body movements.

As for this week, Critics’ Circle National Dance Award 2008 Best Male Dancer Jonathan Goddard will be performing ‘Fitcher’s Bird’ with his partner Gemma Nixon on April 24th (tonight). This duet is inspired by the rhythmic patterns of neurons firing inside the brain. Dance fans can also look forward to another Prix Jardin d’Europe 2010 nominee , Gabriele Reuter, who  is staging a slapstick comic performance ‘Tourist’ along with Giuliana Majo on April 28th.

And catch the UK’s very own theatre company Gecko as they premiere with a journey into a young woman’s psyche in a story of the forgotten past in Missing on May 2-4th

Springloaded 2012 is on until 23rd June 2012 at The Place, Robin Howard Dance Theatre, 17 Duke’s Road, London WC1H 9PY.  Visit www.theplace.org.uk or call 020 712 11100 for more info.  (Words: Li-Yin Soh)
