]]> This is the first year that Global Beats has taken the ‘festival’ moniker. In its previous incarnation, Global Beats took place in Wilton’s Mahogany Bar and spanned across two-weeks. Now, the festival dominates the main auditorium at Wilton’s Music Hall and represents London’s thirst for world music. Curated by Planetman – from Dalston’s very worldy Passing Clouds fame – the 4-day event is set to be a hotbed of talent from all continents. You can expect to see performers from Senegal, USA, Japan, New Zealand, Congo… you name it. And, musical disciplines such as Algerian Berber, Afro-blues, Balkan beats, a bit of ska, and maybe a serving of Ghetto swing for good measure. Global-Beats-Festival-Artists Planetman and his band The Internationalz will also be playing on the Saturday night to close the show, alongside music legend Dele Sosimi and the Afrobeat Orchestra. Multi award-winning Sosimi has an impeccable reputation and has been performing Afrobeat since 1995. He has worked with the mighty Fela Kuti and his son Femi on their productions and his live shows are always a inspiringly beat-thumping experience. Others to look out for include the Future Swing Stories – a collective of producers, DJs and designers who are revamping bad boy bass with an enviable determination to get you dancing, The Turbans, for their radical and energetic performance style and DJ Koichi Sakai, a Japanese producer who has worked with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Nostalgia 77, Quantic and Bugz in the Attic.
