I’m a proud West Londoner, but when it comes to places to hang out on a good night’s eve, the struggle is unbelievably, frustratingly real. That is, unless you can make it rain like the Chelsea set that has the privilege to  rock up to hotspots like Chiltern Firehouse. But Heist Bank, the new, very vibesy, very Shoreditch-y bar in Paddington looks like the answer that my fellow, not-so-wealthy citizens of the Westside and I  have been praying for.

Pizza, Beer and Flowers (who knew?)

If you’ve ever been to Coin Laundry on Exmouth Market, that should give you some idea of what to expect from this playful new kid on the block, at least style-wise. The same guys are behind both venues. But the Bank does  exceptional pizzas, proper bougie craft beers and slick cocktails (not to mention flowers?! Oooookay…!). It’s also a part of the  Merchant Square re-development that is slowly but surely making Paddington a worthy contender for a respectable night out. I reviewed the bar for Time Out London a few months ago (read it here), but let me know if you’ve been yet. I really like it!

I went to a pizza place last autumn. So far, so normal. Except this pizza place was a pop-up from the mighty, Michelin-starred Locanda Locatelli – an Italian restaurant that’s earned a reputation for food that is superb, no one would fault you for shedding a tear after a meal. That’s why I couldn’t turn down an invite to check out this pretty pop-up in Angel which was only meant to be around until the end of December. It turns out that it’ll still be on Upper Street (in the old post office) until March, which gives you ample time to head up there for their excellent, reasonably priced pizzas and other dishes. Check out pics from my visit below – and for more details, follow  Locanda Locatelli on Twitter: www.twitter.com/loclocatelli.

Rocket is a pizza restaurant in Holborn where everything – from the super-mod interiors to the genius cocktails – goes out of its way to impress.

The USP: For starters, they don’t just do pizza (scan the menu here).  And it’s the sort of place that toes the line of fancy fine dining with plenty of creative, tasty dishes to choose from;  I never would have imagined a chorizo, halloumi and butterfly king prawns pizza could work, but it did!

Their cocktails don’t miss the mark either and if you want something with a bit of pizzazz, you might want to give the French Passion  a whirl – it’s made with Absolut, Chambord, passion fruit purée, pineapple juice and fresh passion fruit and is truly as sexy as it sounds.

Budget:  Meal for 2?  At least £60 for a starter, mains and cocktails

Good for: File it under date night, ladies night or let’s just get some damn good pizza night.

If you’ve ever queued up for a Pizza Pilgrims slice at their Berwick Street van, you’ll understand that the opening of a fully-fledged restaurant is pretty big win-win for brothers James and Thom Elliot, and their legions of fans.

Having built their brand on whipping up authentic Napoli-style pizza (without the gummy dough and faff), their new locale resides on a hotspot corner of Dean Street (interestingly across the street from the lesser Pizza Express) and offers a compact menu with starters, afters, and on-trend Aperol spritzes amongst the drinks.

At yesterday’s launch, we tucked into a few varieties of their freshly-baked pizzas wishing we could stay around for the blood orange sorbet – but there’s no doubt we’ll be back; with decent prices, plenty of downstairs space and an address that’s easy to get to, this is one way to get a tasty slice of Italy right on our doorstep.
