Funny how just a few years ago, I was sprinting down my high street to beat the closing time of my local video shop, all in the name of avoiding late fees – and nowadays, watching the latest movies is as easy, convenient (and less breathless!) as the click of the button. So when I got wind that Curzon were launching a new On Demand service to view anything from their vast archive of classic, contemporary and arty flicks online, I didn’t need much convincing to sign up. I’m a big fan of the independent arthouse cinemas anyway – Renoir’s my fave – plus it’s free to join and the film prices are very reasonable (as low as £2 and less for members). I simply selected Curzon On Demand on the homepage, clicked the Curzon On Demand | My Films on the bottom right, then proceeded to register for My Curzon account. I then received a confirmation email with a link that took me to my personalised account page.

I found the easiest way to pick a film from this point was to click on the Curzon On Demand link on the top menu again, and choose from New Releases (these include those showing in cinema, available from the first day of release – nice) Best Sellers or Recommended films, displayed in the middle of the page. There’s quite alot to choose from – including a nice selection of Chaplin classics –  but I eventually settled on the poignant and powerful Into The Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life. Once I zipped through the checkout, I clicked “My Films” on the top right of my browser window and there it was to watch, in top HD quality – and I loved the fact I had up to seven days to watch it via my laptop too.

To take the whole experience further, you can also discuss the films you watch with other likeminded film lovers on the site – I do love a good movie debate – so overall, Curzon On Demand gets two thumbs up from me; and with the Easter break upon us, it looks like this could be just the ticket for a relaxing way to enjoy the bank hols.
