For nearly 150 years, Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park has been one of the few public speaking forums where anything goes: religion, politics, complaints about the weather (surprise, surprise) and philosophical discussions on matters that usually make more sense to the orators than anyone else. But that’s the charm of this unique locale, which has been the subject of a year-long research project devised by the Bishopsgate Institute and On the Record, specialists in oral history projects.  Now done and dusted, they’ll be throwing a launch event on December 7th that will present the archive and exhibition,  celebrating  the riotous sights and sounds of Speaker’s Corner.   The Sounds From the Park  event is free to attend and will include live performances, heckling sessions, workshops and a complimentary lunch from 1-2pm.  There’s also a chance to meet some of the regulars who’ve made Speakers’ corner what it is today – and what we can expect for many years to come.
