Something you should see… The VICE Illustration Show

With a multitude of free magazines and newspapers constantly being pushed in our direction whenever we leave a tube station, Vice has long represented a breath of fresh air with its tongue in cheek, often controversial but invariably accurate take on world news and culture.

For the first time they will be hosting their own exhibition, showcasing a mixture of previously seen images from their pages over the past 10 years, as well as a glimpse of future works still to be published. As people known to push the boundaries and produce works of clarity on modern life, it will make for a revealing and illuminating art show with little political correctness to be found but plenty of engaging art pieces.
The varied works include sketches to animations from the likes of regular Vice contributors Johnny Ryan, Cei Willis, Daniel David Freeman and Kyle Platts amongst others – and the show aims to demonstrate the work of a modern illustrator,  given the way media has changed with the growth of digital. And with so many news stories today now featuring pictures captured by people on their smart phones or taken from Instagram or Twitter,  the images used by Vice always compliment their accompanying articles in a way that can convey far more than a shakey camera phone picture – whether it’s discussing ‘what do terrorists and Tesco have in common’ or one of my favourites ‘what do fascists think of Anne Hathaway?’  So head here this May for a thought-provoking at experience.
